Overview

Hutchison Whampoa Limited entered into the infrastructure business in 1997 by acquiring 84.6 per cent interest in Cheung Kong Infrastructure through a re-organisation of the Cheung Kong Group, and actively sustains strong growth in the infrastructure business. Its entry into the energy business started in 1985 by acquiring a substantial interest in Hongkong Electric Holdings Limited. Two years later, in 1987, the Group expanded overseas to acquire Husky Energy, a listed Canadian-based energy and energy related company.

More recently, the Group has become involved in a number of power-generation and toll roads and bridges projects in Mainland China, as well as power and gas distribution businesses and global water industry in Australia, New Zealand and the UK through its subsidiary Cheung Kong Infrastructure.

In addition, Investment and Others division consists of Hutchison Whampoa (China), Hutchison Harbour Ring, the TOM Group, a Chinese language media group as well as several B2B and B2C e-commerce operations.
