The Group owns 50 per cent of both Hongkong
United Dockyards Group (HUD Group) and Hongkong
Salvage and Towage (HKST).
HUD
Group is the major provider of ship repair services in Hong
Kong - one of the world's busiest container ports. Located
on Tsing Yi Island, the company's 1990-built dockyard is one
of Asia's most modern facilities, with the largest steel fabrication
and heavy engineering workshops in Hong Kong and sea walls
which can accommodate vessels with up to 12.5 metres draft.
HUD Group's floating dock United, with its 40,000-tonne lifting
capacity and post-panamax beam, enables the company to undertake
dry-docking, maintenance, repair and survey on all types and
sizes of vessels calling at Hong Kong. Equipped with travelling
cranes of up to 70-tonne lifting capacity, as well as high-pressure
washing, airless paint spraying, grit-blasting, and welding
equipment, the dock has direct access to shore and to the
yard's extensive workshop facilities and is conveniently located
close to Hong Kong's container port. HUD Group's harbour repair
department also offers round-the-clock routine and emergency
repairs and maintenance to all types of vessels afloat at
berths, buoys or at anchor.
As a complement yet a separate operating division, HUD General
Engineering Services (HUD GES) is the land based contracting
division of the group. GES has been established since 1970
and is centred on mechanical & electrical process, design,
manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning and operation
of both in house and supplied equipment. Particular expertise
centres around turnkey project management solutions which
can be seamlessly integrated into an operating environment.
HUD GES is focussed on transport & infrastructure projects,
having gained specific experience with airports, railway,
both municipal and industrial waste water treatment facilities,
land reclamation projects and also with the power sector projects
both in Hong Kong and Macau.
The majority of the projects are site based, but are supported
by the design, logistics and commercial management team at
the Tsing Yi Headquarters. HUD Group's workshops at Tsing
Yi also provide extensive electrical and mechanical repair
and maintenance work in their own right and as a support service
to the HUD GES field operations.
The HUD Group is the leading provider of electric motor overhaul
services in Hong Kong and HUD GES is an approved Specialist
Contractor to the Hong Kong Government for a total of 10 different
specialist provisions as well as a Registered Electrical Contractor.
Certified to ISO9002, HUD GES Ltd has built on the skills
and experience in Marine engineering to offer a world class
range of services.
The recent acquisition of Conspec, a specialist coatings
supplier, has enhanced the product portfolio of CES.
The Workshop of the HUD Group is a leading repair centre
for electrical motors, generators and transformers in Hong
Kong, and also the regional representative and agent for many
international manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB, Loher, Reliance,
Baldor, GE and Siome Motori S.P.A.
HUD Automotive Services is a comprehensive service provider
fully equipped with an environmental vehicle refinishing/bodywork
facility and a 16-bay commercial vehicle workshop of 15,000
sq ft. The business unit is an authorised workshop and genuine
parts distributor for Volvo commercial vehicles, and undertakes
multi-brand contract fleet maintenance and retail services,
as well as accident repairs, Certificate of Roadworthiness,

Hackney commercial vehicle body designers and manufacturers.
HUD Automotive Services operates a Government authorised Vehicle
Emission Testing Centre (VETC) for commercial vehicles, and
acts as sole agent for Eminox Ltd for a range of diesel oxidation
catalyst and particulate trap products in Hong Kong.
The HUD Group's Automotive Services Division has recently
been awarded the "Best Service Centre for Commercial
Vehicles 2001/02" by CAR PLUS Magazine - one of Hong
Kong's most respected automotive periodicals.
In April 2000, Hongkong Salvage & Towage became a division
of Hongkong United Dockyards, and is now trading as HUD
Marine.
HUD
Marine has the largest and most modern tug fleet in Hong Kong.
In February 2004, the fleet includes 22 tugs totalling 80,400
BHP with an average age of only seven years.
Services offered include harbour towage, deep-sea towage,
salvage, heavy lifting, newbuilding design and supervision,
project management and consultancy.
The
harbour fleet provides 24 hour towing and berthing services
anywhere in Hong Kong waters. The HUD Marine operations room
is permanently manned to organise routine towing jobs or emergency
response as necessary.
HUD Marine is the only HK-based member of the International
Salvage Union, and has an enviable track record of successfully
assisting vessels in distress throughout the South China Sea
and beyond.
In recent years, the company's growing reputation has helped
it expands into new areas. HUD Marine tugs are presently operating
in Mexico, Australia, Indonesia and the Arabian Gulf.
