Radio Broadcast

Metro Broadcast Corporation Limited (Metro Broadcast) went on air in July 1991. Since June 1996, it is wholly owned by Hong Kong-listed Cheung Kong Holdings Limited (stock code: 0001) and Hutchison Whampoa Limited (stock code: 0013). Metro Broadcast currently operates three channels, namely Metro Finance (FM 104), Metro Info (FM 99.7) and Metro Plus (AM 1044).

According to the admanGo Adspend Report in 2010, Metro Broadcast has captured 55.4 per cent of the share in the radio industry a remarkable leap from 2001 (only 28 per cent).

Metro Broadcast has also been awarded as one of the caring companies for eight consecutive years. Being a socially responsible corporation, Metro Broadcast never forgets making contributions in helping the needy.

Metro Finance (FM 102.4 - 106.3)
Metro Finance is the first 24-hour Cantonese finance radio channel in the world. Its goal is to provide the audience in Hong Kong and other parts of the world with accurate, real-time and market-moving news and important information of global financial markets.

Starting from 5 February 2001, Metro Finance provides information related to securities, bonds, investment funds, insurance and other information about financial markets in Hong Kong, Europe, the US, Japan, the Asia Pacific region and China, etc.

As a pioneer in the local and global radio industry, Metro Finance taps a pool of top financial experts, business elites, reputable hosts and professionals (some of whom have never been on air before) to present their views and participate in live interactive forums of Metro Finance.

Metro Info (FM 99.7 - 102.1)
Metro Broadcast recognizes the growing need for information by the general public in Hong Kong and therefore pioneers to transform its FM99.7 channel to a platform encompassing entertainment, information, music and lifestyle under the new name of "Metro Info" commencing on 2 January 2008.

Metro Info Channel is an all-in-one infotainment channel offering programmes of a wide range of varieties; including entertainment, music, lifestyle, self-enhancement, health care and commerce just to name a few. With Metro Info, access to information is quick and simple as a snap of fingers.

Metro Plus (AM 1044)
As Hong Kong is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the World, Metro Plus serves it listeners with the same concept. Metro Plus is not only the most sought after English station on the dial but a formidable leader as far as international sound is concerned. From Filipino to Indonesian, Chinese to Hindi, Metro Plus brings you the best mix of cultures broadcast in their own vernacular. It is the channel of choice, speaking many languages but setting no borders.

Official Website (metroradio.com.hk) and Smartphone Apps
To provide an all round service to the audience, Metro Broadcast re-launched metroradio.com.hk in 2008 to be the number one financial and entertainment media portal in Hong Kong. The portal is well blended with interactive sight and sound providing latest information for finance, music, entertainment, health, travel, education and more. Up till now, the portal has already recruited over 350,000 registered members and many global brands find their advertising dollars are spent effectively on this platform reaching quality customers.

Metro Broadcast has further extended its reach by developing free Mobile Apps for different Smartphone platforms since 2009. Metro Broadcast is the only local broadcaster with Mobile Apps for the most popular Smartphone platforms including iPhone, Android, Window Mobile, Nokia Ovi and Blackberry. As of August 2011, over 500,000 downloads have been made.

A New Era for Radio Broadcasting
The launch of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) service will mark a new era in the local broadcasting development and provide a novel experience for radio listeners. In March 2011, the Hong Kong SAR government licensed Metro Broadcast to provide territory-wide, round-the-clock DAB service on a total of three channels, offering potentially better geographical coverage with more stable reception and a greater diversity of programmes with flawless sound quality. In addition, DAB also supports the transmission of digital images (ancillary visual service) to the screens of DAB receivers, enabling listeners to view various information.

Metro Broadcast plans to roll out three new channels in separate phases, starting with the launch of "Metro Finance Digital" channel in 2012, hence making it the first and only Hong Kong commercial radio broadcaster providing AM, FM and DAB services.
